It stings horribly. My fingers felt like there was some kind of residue, and even though I washed my hands twice, the backs still hurt and are very red.

Are artificial trees covered with some kind of coating?

After we got it home I saw a warning on the side advising one to wash one’s hands after touching the tree as it contains lead. I guess I’m naive–it never occurred to me that an xmas tree manufactured today would have lead in it. I’m not worried about myself or my partner and there will be no small children around it, but is using this tree potentially harmful for our cat? If so I obviously want to return it and figure out what to do instead. Thanks you!

I took the top section off just fine, but the middle one is stuck and I threw away the directions. Is there something I have to push to get it to come loose from the bottom section?

It’s the kind with the branches that fold up when you store it and comes predecorated with lights, if that helps.

Some of them are flat-the needles stick out on the sides of the branch, not all the way around. Any other suggestions?
By the way, my tree is white so a regular light strand wouldn’t work because the cord is green.
The original strands cannot be removed; they are very well tied to the tree.
